Letter from Fr. Jim - 4/30/20
Dear Parishioner of St. Patrick Catholic Parish:
I am writing to you to announce that St. Patrick Catholic School (pre K-6) will open as planned in the fall. That is exciting and great news for all of us. The St. Patrick family (parish and school) has come together (headed by our principal Mrs. Tracy Koenig) and worked very hard over these last several weeks to reach our budgeted number of 68 paid registered students for the 2020-21 school year.
However, I have many financial concerns for both the school and the parish, because of the so many unanswered social and economic questions, in light of the Coronavirus pandemic. Will schools even be able to open in the fall? What if families are still out of work and cannot afford tuition in September? What happens if families, through no fault of their own, have to default on tuition in order to pay the essential bills? What will our attendance, and offertory numbers look like when we are able to gather again for mass? Will people stay away out of fear or convenience? I know, a lot of unanswered questions. I’m sure many of you have thought of some questions I have not. I would be happy to hear them.
On the evening of April 28, 2020 I met with the Endowment Trustees, and I believe a plan for us (St. Patrick Parish & School) to move forward together was put in place. The Endowment Trustees have agreed to cover all deficits on both the school and parish side for the 2020-2021 financial year (July 1, 2020-June 30, 2021). I believe this financial security is essential for both the parish and school as we move forward with so many unanswered questions due to the Coronavirus pandemic. I thank the Endowment Trustees for their collaboration and generosity in finding a way forward that works for both the parish and school!
I/We still need your help and support. We (St. Patrick Catholic Church) are the Body of Christ! Please visit our parish web site www.stpatbryan.org and our newly created Facebook page. We have continued to post a weekly bulletin, along with updates and resources on where you can find mass on the Web, TV, and Radio. When we are able to resume gathering for mass, we need your PRESENCE! We need to be able to see one another again, and greet each other, and pray together and celebrate the greatest gift of all the Holy Eucharist, together! While the Endowment Trustees have a provided a safety net for our parish and school, we still need your support (physically, spiritually, and monetarily). Our collections are down over 50% since the Coronavirus outbreak and the suspension of masses (which I believe was the right and prudent choice for the safety of all). There is someone in the office Monday-Thursday from 8a.m. until 1p.m. if you would like to drop of your offertory or pick up a bulletin. We are also working on electronic giving, being able to make a donation with the use of credit or debit card. We hope to have this process up and running in the near future.
I thank you all for taking the time to read this letter and for your support of our parish and school. Please know, I miss seeing all of you and celebrating the Eucharist with you. I hope and pray and look forward to the day that we can again gather and celebrate as the Body of Christ. Know my prayers are with all of you.
Stay safe and God Bless,
Contributions During COVID
Even though we aren't together at Mass, the parish still has expenses that are happening every week. Many people have been mailing in their regular contributions to the parish office, and for that we thank you. While the Finance Committee is currently working on a true online giving option, there is a way that you can do an online gift through your bank's bill pay feature.
Setting up a recurring payment through your online bank account is pretty simple. Though each bank’s website will slightly differ, the basic concept is the same for each. When you give this way, the bank mails the church a check and does not charge you or the church anything. It’s a great way to give!
Here's a quick how to:
- Enter St. Patrick Catholic Church as a ‘Payee’ in the Bill Pay center for your online banking. The parish's address is 610 S. Portland St., Bryan, OH 43506 and the phone number is 419-636-1044.
- Create a recurring or “automatic” payment to St. Patrick Catholic Church (making sure to choose an amount, start date, and frequency.
That's it... the contribution will be automatically mailed to the church however frequently you specified. If you have trouble, please contact your local bank for assistance.
Thank you for your generosity and may God bless you for your act of faith!
